Forest Carbon and Climate Program (FCCP) Senior Research Assistant, Daphna Gadoth-Goodman, and Communications Manager, Adrianna Sutton, presented on program offerings and activities to students at Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) enrolled in the Current Issues in Forest Resources class taught for over 25 years by Steve Wilent, Director of Sustainability Communications at the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).

One of only three forestry programs in the state of Oregon accredited by the Society of American Foresters (SAF), the MHCC Natural Resources Technology Program curriculum prepares students for positions of technical responsibility in natural resources management and research. Students in Steve Wilent’s class investigate biological, social, and political issues influencing forestry and natural resources management.

The presentation introduced students to FCCP course offerings, engagement opportunities, open resource library, projects, and research. Highlighted in particular were the program’s Pacific Northwest Regional Intensive course and FCCP’s collaborative work with the Climate and Applied Forest Research Institute (CAFRI) at SUNY-ESF—the Forest + Climate Visualization Partnership.

The FCCP was established to connect professionals, natural resource managers, decision-makers, students, and the broader public with the value of forested lands and forest products in addressing climate change. Extensive expertise in forest conservation guides the program's focus, in addition to local, regional, and international relationships with entities engaged in the utilization and protection of forests and related ecosystems. Program offerings are designed to provide accessible, relevant, current information about forest carbon and climate adaptation and mitigation to decision-makers and to help them connect with the communities they serve. Daphna and Adrianna were pleased to be invited to share FCCP resources and activities with Steve Wilent’s class.
