FDA Warns CBD Sellers Making COVID Claims

FDA and FTC issued seven hemp-CBD-related warning letters regarding products intended to “mitigate, prevent, treat, diagnose, or cure” a disease or health condition.

Some important takeaways:

  • FDA and FTC are reviewing social media and websites.
  • If you use stories, articles, or blogs to sell or market your products, you will be held responsible for making those claims yourself.
  • Misleading consumers during a pandemic will be taken seriously and may result in greater penalties.
  • Make corrections quickly. FDA is expecting a response on corrections within 48 hours rather than the usual 15 days for warning letters.

And, of course, do not make unapproved health claims for treating COVID-19!
