Add Summary

Vanessa Hull has received the Outstanding Graduate Student Award from the Ecological Society of America’s Asian Ecology Section, an award that promotes recognition of ecologists who have made substantial contributions to the development of Asian ecological research.

She received the award, which includes a cash prize, at the group’s annual meeting in Portland, Ore., in early August.

She was nominated by her adviser Jianguo “Jack” Liu, who, in part, noted:

“She has made 13 field trips to Wolong Nature Reserve in southwestern China with a total of 35 months. In the field, Vanessa and her field assistants often walked (or crawled) 12-14 hours a day in the high mountains with rough terrain and complex topography in order to obtain accurate field data and measurements of panda habitat and behavior.”

The Ecological Society of America is the world’s largest community of professional ecologists and the trusted source of ecological knowledge. ESA is committed to advancing the understanding of life on Earth. The 10,000 member Society publishes five journals, convenes an annual scientific conference, and broadly shares ecological information through policy and media outreach and education initiatives.
