NPR’s Morning Edition recently interviewed Matt Grieshop to discuss how the Solid Set Canopy Delivery System can mist orchards with minimal water to protect them from spring frost. Matt, along with horticulturalist Jim Flore and farmer Ken Engle, explained how this new way of using existing technology could address frost and other problems for fruit growers throughout the country. Listen to the story: Fruit Growers Try Tricking Mother Nature to Prevent Crop Damage.

The Solid Set Canopy Delivery System project is a USDA-SCRI funded Coordinated Ag Project with a research and extension team from the states of Michigan, Washington and New York. The team’s goal is to develop and evaluate a solid-set canopy delivery (SSCD) system for apples and cherries.
