Academic Focus Area: Outdoor Recreation for Special Populations

Aswad is currently pursuing his Ph.D in Sustainable Tourism and Protected Area Management at MSU and is also affiliated with the Department of Recreation and Ecotourism in University Putra Malaysia (UPM), Malaysia. His interest in research lies in outdoor recreation and adventure programming. He has always enjoyed outdoor activities and wanted to share the outdoor experience with others, hence his research focus is on outdoor opportunities for people with special needs. Previously, he was a researcher at the Ecotourism and Urban Forestry Programme, Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM). His five years tenure in FRIM has provided him with valuable experience in knowledge transfer through handling of courses and training, particularly in interpretation, nature guiding and environmental education. He obtained his first degree in Forestry Science and his Master’s Degree in Recreation and Ecotourism Services from UPM. He hopes that by pursuing his doctorate study at MSU, he will enhance his knowledge, skills and experience which will enable him to become a resourceful academician and capable to play an active role in contributing to the well-being of diverse individuals, communities and the environment.
