We are seeking an individual to take the lead role in our day to day activities on our research farms. The position will be based out of Dewitt Mi, but will include work around the state and at our research farm in North Carolina.  This position calls for a candidate who has a good background in production agriculture, that is detail oriented and able to produce accurate and dependable results for our customers, while managing a team of individuals.

This person will be in charge of the overall farm operations including:

  • Preparing plans and maintaining schedules for planting, herbicide and nutrient application, irrigation, and harvesting of all farm fields.

 

  • Preparing and maintaining spray and treatment schedules for all trial work.  Ensuring that treatments and samples are taken as required and on-time. 

 

  • Communicating with management that adequate staffing requirements are being met for the schedules and tasks are completed successfully
  • Scheduling regular visits to the company fields to inspect crops, and also perform tests on soil and plant material
  • Ensuring seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and other supplies are regularly restocked and communicate with management when supplies are needed
  • Scheduling repairs, maintenance, and replacement of equipment and machinery and communicate with management
  • Ensuring all staff adheres to health and safety regulations at all times
  • Ensure proper PPE is available and in stock for employee use by reporting to office administrator when stocks are low
  • Assisting with the recruitment and training of new staff members
  • Building professional networks and keeping abreast of developments in agricultural science

Farm Manager Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, or equivalent.
    • Additional courses in business management or administration are recommended.
    • Extensive experience in a farming-related field.
    • Management experience would be a plus.
    • A passion for agriculture
    • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel
    • Ability to work outside, stand, walk, kneel and stoop for extended periods
    • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
    • The ability to make decisions in stressful environments.
    • Superb communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Willingness to work overtime as required.
    • Willingness to participate in trade shows, conferences and continuing education courses as needed.
