Working/Functional Title

IPM Coordinator/Greenhouse Manager II

Position Summary

The successful candidate will oversee the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program for the Plant Science Research Greenhouses (PSRG) at Michigan State University. The PSRG has over 100,000 sq. ft. of research space and serves over 70 faculty in eight academic departments at MSU. Research is conducted on at least 100 different species of plants, including all of Michigan’s commodity groups. The IPM Coordinator will serve as a key resource to, and consult frequently with, faculty, staff, and students who use the PSRG.

The PSRG is in a period of significant renovations and the IPM Coordinator will have the opportunity to drive concurrent change in the pest management program. The current program relies on pesticides and the IPM Coordinator will be expected to develop new pest management strategies that strategically incorporate beneficial organisms to reduce pesticide use.

The ideal candidate will: (1) Have strong experience in scouting for, identifying, and treating common greenhouse insect and disease pests. (2) Have working knowledge of plant physiology and nutrition. (3) Hold a Michigan Commercial Pesticide Applicators license or be able to obtain one within two months of hire.
