Duties and responsibilities
Primary job duties and responsibilities
- Process plant material using sterile technique.
- Maintain inventory of plants as they are processed. Accurate record keeping is a must.
- Clean glassware, mop floors, and wipe down surfaces in order to keep the facility clean.
- And other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications include:
- Follow instructions on personal protection equipment in order to maintain a safe work environment.
- Maintain a clean work environment.
- Need to be a very conscientious and detail-oriented person.
- Working under a laminar flow hood – sitting for long periods of time and working with fine instruments.
- Ability to work with multiple plant varieties and maintain their separation.
- Ability to work independently.
- Not necessary, but some interest or experience in plant propagation a plus.
- This job can be very repetitive.
Working conditions
The job is being performed in a clean work environment in a secure building. Open to a flexible schedule for the right person.
Physical requirements
Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
Ability to use fine instruments with repetition for extended periods of time.
Ability to load and unload autoclave. Some personal twisting while lifting is required.
We are a plant tissue culture lab focused on the ornamental plant industry. We work with breeders and plant marketing companies domestically and internationally to hold clean stock of their proprietary genetics and also to serve as a research and development company for them. This would be a fantastic position for a graduating student interested in plant tissue culture or plant breeding.
