Horse Camp: English Riding - Day 2

Chores

Time to shovel, groom, feed, and tack! The horses got a bit of a spa day, having so many amazing campers take care of them, and helping them be desensitized to so many people around them. Horses do tend to get spooked very easily when they are not used to new environments, so our campers were really amazing at making the horses continue to feel welcomed here at Tollgate.

Ready to Ride

Boots? Check. Helmet? Check. Gloves if you need them? Check. Ready for fun? Yes! Part of this activity was also learning about all the different steps of how to get yourself and the horse ready to ride. There are a lot of different steps and layers involved with tacking a horse, from the leg braces, saddle pads, putting the harness on, as well as how to properly buckle down the saddle so you don't swing upside down! This goes directly into the activity of leading and tying.

Stick Horse!

Arguably the funniest activity of today, was creating these horses, out of stretchy socks, ribbons, and the best part, googly eyes! Each camper got to choose the ribbons they used, the color of the horse's mane, and the buttons for the nose. When these designs are all finished, these stick horses will be ready for a great big stick horse race, filled with hurdles, obstacle courses and more! Ready, steady, run! Alongside this there was a bucket relay, that sort of prepared us for the races
