Michigan tourism continues to grow

Michigan tourism experienced steady growth throughout 2014, according to Michigan State University (MSU) AgBioResearch scientists Sarah Nicholls and Dan McCole in their annual report on the state of the industry.

Sarah Nicholls said 2014 was a good year for tourism in Michigan despite the unusually cold, wet weather.

Michigan tourism experienced steady growth throughout 2014, according to Michigan State University (MSU) AgBioResearch scientists Sarah Nicholls and Dan McCole in their annual report on the state of the industry.

Nicholls, MSU associate professor of tourism, said that despite 2014 being 6 percent cooler and 11 percent wetter than normal, both hotel occupancy and car traffic had increased around the state. She further added that consumer confidence was 19 percent from 2013.

“2014 saw another year of steady growth for tourism in Michigan despite the weather, which was especially uncooperative early in the year and again in the autumn,” said Nicholls.
