Aleks Schaefer

Aleks Schaefer was a member of the MSU AFRE faculty from 2019 to 2021 as a tenured Assistant Professor and Extension Economist. His research focuses on understanding the economic structures and incentives underpinning the national and international agri-food system in an effort to inform policy design. He has published in the American Journal of Agricultural Economics, the Canadian Journal of Economics, and Food Policy. He also received the 2018 Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award from the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA).
Aleks previously served on the faculty at the Royal Veterinary College, University of London and worked as an economic consultant for the World Bank. He has acted as a litigation consultant on antidumping, countervailing duty, and antitrust proceedings, two class action lawsuits against a major biotechnology firm, and an Australian civil case involving international derivatives trading.
