Janet was an MS student in the Fisheries & Wildlife Department and the Center for Systems Integration and Sustainability. Under the guidance of Dr. Dana Infante, her graduate research investigated how landscape characteristics may affect the quality and condition of coastal habitats and the organisms they support. Her thesis focused on understanding I) the hydrologic linkages between the landscape and nearshore coastal habitats and II) the spatial distribution of coastal ecosystem services as ways to inform conservation strategies.
Prior to MSU, Janet participated in engineering research that studied the ecologic and economic effects of urban water infrastructures. She explored the potential applications for flow augmentation by recycled water as ecosystem management tools in drier climates.
Janet served as a graduate mentor to Society for Freshwater Science undergraduate fellows and is being trained as an emerging leader through the Great Lakes Leadership Academy. As an aspiring environmental scientist and educator, Janet wants to help people understand that the choices they make as individuals matter and empower them to take responsibility for the changes they want to see in their community.
