Dr. David Tschirley is Professor Emeritus at Michigan State University and a leading global expert on food system transformation and policy in developing regions. With nearly four decades of experience across more than 20 countries in Africa, Latin America, and Asia, he consistently bridges the gap between deep empirical research and policy action. His work focuses on the dynamics of agrifood system transformation—including changing diets, market modernization, changing employment patterns, and rural-urban linkages—and their implications for public policy and investment, nutrition, and inclusive economic development. He served as long-time Co-Director of MSU’s renowned Food Security Group (FSG) and has led influential initiatives to build research and policy capacity in the Global South, most recently serving as Director of USAID’s Innovation Lab for Food Security Policy Research, Capacity, and Influence (PRCI) and Chair of the Feed the Future Innovation Lab Council.
