David Nyange is a fixed-term associate professor of International Development, in the Department of Agricultural,  Food, and Resource Economics at Michigan State University (MSU). He is an agricultural economist with over 20 years of experience in academic and rural development work. In this capacity, David is out-posted to Tanzania and serves as Policy Advisor to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries in Tanzania.

Before joining MSU, David held various positions at USAID/Tanzania and Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA).  In his work with USAID/Tanzania for seven years, he was a Senior Agricultural Economist and Deputy Team Leader for Feed the Future.  He was instrumental in designing and rolling out of a food security and nutrition program under Feed the Future initiative. As a Deputy Team Leader, David was engaged in a complex and sensitive policy dialogue with host country government, other donors, civil society and private sector. He also represented USAID in a working group for Southern Agricultural Growth Corridor of Tanzania (SAGCOT) whose mandate was to provide technical support in developing a public-private-partnership for promoting agricultural investments in a designated corridor. Also at USAID David lead efforts to design and manage a program to mitigate the impact of the global financial crisis through a safety net program, policy reforms and interventions in the financial sector.

 Prior to USAID, David lectured and advised students at Sokoine University of Agriculture where among other things he was part of the team that spearheaded establishment of an MBA agribusiness program. He is currently working on Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Food Security Policy: Tanzania Buy-In (ASPIRES).
