Call for Short Films on Mycotoxins and Best Practices in Nigeria’s Agriculture

The Feed the Future Nigeria Agricultural Policy Project in collaboration with Researchers at the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Nigeria announce the Call for Submission of Short Films on Mycotoxins and Best Practices in Nigeria’s Agriculture. The Feed the Future Nigeria Agricultural Policy Project is a USAID Nigeria Funded Project implemented by Michigan State University and the International Food Policy Research Institute. Researchers under the Project from Michigan State University and the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta recently concluded a study on Mycotoxins across the Maize Value Chain in Nigeria’s Agriculture. There are 4 categories of submission under this call; they are:

  1. Short Film in English Language on Mycotoxins and Best Practices in Nigeria’s Agriculture
  2. Short Film in Igbo Language on Mycotoxins and Best Practices in Nigeria’s Agriculture
  3. Short Film in Hausa Language on Mycotoxins and Best Practices in Nigeria’s Agriculture
  4. Short Film in Yoruba Language on Mycotoxins and Best Practices in Nigeria’s Agriculture

The films will be based on information from the research team's findings.  Each of the 4 categories have 3 prize segments attached to them.  The First Prize Segment comes with a Certificate of Recognition issued by the Project and a cash award of ₦85,000.00 The Second Prize Segment comes with a Certificate of Recognition issued by the Project and a cash award of ₦55,000.00. The Third Prize Segment comes with a Certificate of Recognition issued by the Project and a cash award of ₦35,000.00.

Submission Guidelines

Submissions must include an explanation in the film of what aflatoxin is, the dangerous implications of consuming food with high levels of it for humans and animals and then some ways to minimize one's exposure to it based on the research documents below.

  • Submissions must be 5 minutes or less. Films longer than five (5) minutes will not be considered.
  • Submissions may not advertise any product, service, brand, or other commercial interest
  • Submissions should include appropriate content to reflect culture associated with the language of the video
  • Submissions should be uploaded to YouTube as unlisted links.  A "How to Upload to YouTube" guide can be found below.
  • Participants may submit only one version of a given category. However, any participant may submit on more than one category. A separate entry form must be completed for each submission.
  • Submissions must include a completed entry form.  Entry Forms can be found below.
  • Completed entry forms will be submitted as an e-mail attachment addressed to nigerianfilmcall@gmail.com The entry forms MUST be submitted as word or PDF documents.

Jurying Procedures

Films will be judged by five people forming the Project Dissemination Team, which comprises Media Practitioners, Researchers and Graduate Research Students. The Call is Open from Tuesday September 10, 2019 to Thursday October 10, 2019. Winners will be announced on October 17, 2019.
