DISCOVERING THE FUTURE
Improving Life for those with Lupus
Upon learning of MSU Distinguished Professor Jim Pestka’s research on lupus, Robert Deibel, Ph.D., and his wife of 50 years – Carol – wanted to invest. Their endowment allows Dr. Pestka to employ nine students in his laboratory at MSU. One of those students – fourth-year graduate student Kate Wieranga – earned a research fellowship from the Lupus Foundation of America. Her work focuses on how DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid, can be used to combat lupus and other immune diseases.

MENTORING THE FUTURE
Leading the Way
The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, through several different programs, works to mentor beginning faculty, young alumni and students. In this video, you’ll meet a student, Ty’Carria, who is studying fisheries and wildlife; and Alexis Horton, who works with the Department of Natural Resources. Both women are benefitting from mentorship opportunities provided through the college’s Multicultural Apprenticeship Program, a summer program for high school students in Michigan.

Renovation of the School of Packaging
The School of Packaging is one of the infrastructure projects that we are planning and for which we are seeking private investments. Alyssa Harben, a Ph.D. candidate in the School of Packaging works with some of our world-class faculty there. In this video, she describes how our facilities attract the best and brightest.

BUILDING THE FUTURE
A New Look for a Special Building
Gary Seevers is passionate about Michigan State University. He understands how his time at MSU launched a remarkable life and career. Gary’s generosity has funded professorships, multiple endowed scholarships and his most recent gift transformed a building – the same one in which he studied some 50 years ago. MSU rededicated Cook-Seevers Hall last July in recognition of his investment in its renovation.
