HRT 404: Horticultural Management

  • 3 credits (2 lecture and 2 lab hours every week)

Course objectives

To learn fundamental business management skills, concepts, and application of those to the horticulture industry.  Most students will enhance their management skills through a variety of learning methods.


Making good financial decisions, reading income statements and balance sheets, working with a diverse team, the role of personality on leadership and management, effective management, listening skills.


This is a capstone course and the key activity is creation of a business plan (fictitious or realistic) as an individual or team project.  Several students each semester go on to initiate and manage these business plans in the industry.
