Professional Accreditations and Networking
Students who complete Urban WildFIRE will become NWCG certified Type II Wildland Firefighters, and will complete the initial requirements for USFS i-Tree credentials. Participants will additionally be able to establish a network of diverse peers and professional affiliates in both urban and community forestry and wildland fire, with whom they will be able to navigate their future professional and personal endeavors.
Broader Impacts
Through the implementation of Urban WildFIRE, we intend to provide a means by which to ensure that a greater number of traditionally underrepresented students have the skills required to enter the urban forestry, wildland fire, and broader natural resources workforces. It is also our goal to equip students with the skills and confidence required to begin and sustain their careers both with competence and a great sense of belonging in these fields.
