The Position: We are looking for a dedicated, hard-working individual to fulfil the Assistant Grower role on site at Hop Head Farms, in Southwest Michigan. The pay will be negotiable based on the individuals experience but will start between $45,000-$55,000/year.

Location and Hours:

  • Hop Head Farms, LLC - 2993 E. Lemon Creek rd. Berrien Springs, MI 49103
  • 5 separate farm locations within a 10-mile radius of above
  • The Assistant Grower is a salaried position that can be seasonally demanding. Expect anywhere from 45-60 hours a week from April-September, with 40 hours/week expected in the off season (October-March). Additionally, during harvest season, this employee may be asked to work a 4-5 weeklong night shift as hop harvest happens around the clock. Due to the nature of harvesting, once the crop starts getting picked, we will work 7 days/week in 12 hour shifts until the entire crop has been harvested. This is usually from August 15th- September 25th.

 

Job Requirements

 

  • The core responsibility of this role is to give recommendations to and work with the Operations Manager to execute a full IPM/fertilizer program that ensures the success of the different varieties and meets industry standards on yield and
  • Manage a group of employees to carry out all hopyard requirements throughout the
  • Develop and research different hops chemical and fertilizer trials to assess which methods and or options are most efficient to our
  • Collaborate with University research and extension agents to solve problem areas in the farming operation.
  • Keep detailed records of the farming
  • Be trained on and learn how to operate all equipment associated with the farming of

 

  • Assist wherever necessary during the harvest This may include but is not limited to picking, drying, and baling of finished product.
  • Utilize different farm management software to help carry out tasks and keep concise records of farm
  • Irrigation Scheduling
  • Work with multiple suppliers to obtain the most competitive pricing

 

Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy or a related field. Soil science specialization preferred.

  • Three years’ experience in an agronomy related role is preferred, however, any background experience such as internships, research positions, or lifelong farming background may be taken into
  • Experience with specialty crops
  • Valid driver’s
  • Proficient use of technology and computers, specifically with Microsoft
  • Good active listening and written and verbal communication
  • Have ability to work outside and be on your feet for extended periods of
  • Commercial Pesticide Applicator License required. May be obtained post-employment.
  • Strong ability to work alongside and manage other
  • Spanish Speaking is preferred, but not
