About This Role:

The Department of Horticulture and Natural Resources at Kansas State University is seeking an Assistant Professor of Landscape Management (80% teaching / 20% research) to teach courses in Horticultural Landscape Management and conduct extramurally funded research in Landscape Horticulture.

Duties/Responsibilities:

TEACHING:

  • Support the undergraduate program in Horticulture by teaching courses in Landscape Management. Anticipated teaching load is two face-to-face courses per semester (fall and spring), plus team-teaching a one-credit orientation course in the fall semester, and internship supervision for advisees. Potential courses to be taught include Landscape Maintenance, Arboriculture, Landscape Design, Landscape Contracting and Construction, Interior Plantscaping, or other courses depending on the candidate’s expertise.
  • Advise undergraduate students in the Landscape Horticulture option, and other options as needed.
  • Co-advise the Horticulture Club, and serve as primary advisor for the National Collegiate Landscape Competition Team.
  • Participate in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) through course and curriculum development, peer-reviewed publications, and/or collaborative activities that are validated by peers and communicated to others in the field. 

 RESEARCH:

  • Develop an externally funded research program focused on Landscape Management.
  • Publish research in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Collaborate on research projects with on and off-campus faculty (off-campus faculty are located at the Olathe Horticulture Research and Extension Center, Olathe, KS, and the John C. Pair Horticulture Center, Haysville, KS).
  • Participate in and assist with the annual Kansas Turfgrass and Landscape Conference.
  • Contribute to graduate education by serving as major professor to 1-2 graduate students, serving on graduate committees, and publishing results with graduate students.

SERVICE:

  • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees as needed, and participate in service associated with professional organizations in Landscape Horticulture.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Horticulture or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience
  • Demonstrated record of publishing research in peer-reviewed journals
  • Demonstrated record of obtaining extramural funding to support research
  • Demonstrated experience in landscape management
