Job summary:

The City of West Des Moines Public has a full-time Horticulturist opening for a committed, hardworking, detail-oriented professional to coordinate all horticultural duties for Public Service Department.

Under the general direction of the Urban Forestry Supervisor, coordinates all horticultural tasks within the City’s park system, municipal facilities' grounds, street medians, aquatic centers, Jordan Cemetery, and Valley Junction business district. Performs tasks such as designing, establishing, and maintaining all landscape projects, documenting all horticultural maintenance needs, providing and assigning the daily work direction and guidance of seasonal employees, and assisting as needed with horticulture related volunteer projects. Responsible for the purchasing of related supplies and plant materials, maintenance of equipment, and application of chemicals (fertilizers & pesticides).

This is a civil service position

Requirements:

Associate’s degree in Horticulture plus 3 - 5 years related work experience

Working hours:

Monday - Friday; 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM

Working hours/days may vary during the summer and winter seasons

Tentative start date:

December 2022

Salary:

$28.26-$39.55
