Full Job Description

Key Responsibilities of the Horticulturalist:

  • Oversees the care and maintenance of the turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, and trees on the facility grounds including pruning, trimming, root feeding and pest control.
  • Directs and assists the staff on the planting of new vegetation, the replacement and spraying of trees and shrubs, and tending to high stress areas especially during the summer months.
  • Develops detailed annual plans for the seasonal rotation of plants, flowers, etc., in the facility’s various landscaped areas and flowerbeds resulting in fresh, eye-catching, and pleasant flower and plant displays.
  • Stays attuned with current fertilizer and pesticide application. Participates in the application of fertilizers and pesticides
  • Oversees the preparation of soil plant beds, established by seed or transplants, and maintains annual perennial flowers in aesthetically pleasing arrangements.
  • Oversees the operation of mechanical and power equipment utilized in the maintenance of ornamental plants and trees.
  • Assists in the management of department members that may include, but is not limited to: Landscapers, Foreman.
  • Assures that effective orientation and training are given to each new associate. Assists in developing ongoing training programs.
  • Assists in monitoring business volume forecast and plans accordingly in areas of manpower, productivity, costs and other expenses.
  • Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications for the Horticulturalist:

  • College degree in Agronomy; and six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License, Pesticide Application License.
  • Country Club experience preferred.
