Inevitable Farm, a small scale flower farm, seeks summer help. If you desire to learn more about cut flower production while spending your summer in beautiful Leelanau County, this could be the right opportunity.

Who we are:

Located in Elmwood Township, we grow a variety of perennial and annual flowers, fruit and nut trees. We maintain about 4,000 peony plants that we harvest the stems before they open and sell to local florists, grocery stores and from our farm stand. We also deliver or ship cut peony stems to metro Detroit and throughout Michigan for about 6 weeks.

Responsibilities and Opportunities:

Learn all aspects of peony, other perennial and annual flower
Additional perennial/annual flowers and foliage you will be exposed to include Baptisia, Hydrangea, Delphinium, Yarrow, Liatris, Campanula, Bells of Ireland, Snapdragons, Zinnias and many
Learn and be responsible for seed starting, transplanting, fertilizer requirements, disease control, post harvest handling and dried flower
Responsibilities will also include weeding, irrigation, pruning, harvest estimation and other various field work

Some previous gardening experience is helpful but not necessary. Enthusiasm is necessary.

We are proposing that this position be filled with an individual willing to work an average of 30 hours a week for 14 weeks, from May 14 through August 12. During the 8 day peony harvest period, you will be expected to work about 50-60 hours per week. On our busiest harvest days, we will start at 7 AM, harvest and process until about 1 PM. We will take a long break and return to the harvest from about 6-9.

On site housing is available in the form of a 26’ camper RV.

Compensation: $13/ hour if on site housing is needed. $17/ hour if no housing is required. There are additional work opportunities available at other nearby farms and restaurants.

We are located off the Tart Trail, very close to the Farm Club (where our peonies can be found), and 15 minutes from Traverse City and Suttons Bay. The Sleeping Bear Dunes and the beautiful beaches of Lake Michigan are about 25 minutes away.
