JOB DESCRIPTION

Join NCS’ natural resources team to play an integral role in implementing field work in a variety of ecological restoration roles. NCS is seeking a Field Technician Intern performing a variety of tasks involving labor with hand tools, project documentation and clean-up, technical work, and some light machine operation under supervision. A typical workday consists of 4-10 hours of in‐the‐field physical exertion and intensive vegetative observation focus, with variation for weather and specific upland and wetland job needs.  We work year-round, but seasonal demand rises each fall, with related increase in typical hours seasonally.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

There are several work classifications in this job title, and work responsibilities and hours required vary by project. Assigned projects aid us in the areas of invasive species management, native landscaping, green infrastructure, ecology, and environmental science. General responsibilities may include:

 

  • Carrying out assigned projects and programs in areas of Invasive species removal and herbicide
  • Installs green infrastructure – native plantings, natural shorelines, bioswales, bank stabilizations/bioengineering, butterfly
  • Installing and watering native plants and distributing seed and erosion control
  • Aiding in shoreline stabilization and restoration
  • Conducting field studies to identify and assess natural resources: water, flora, soil/geochemistry, wildlife, forests, wetlands,
  • Inspecting work sites to identify safe practices, hazardous conditions, environmental contamination, conformance with accepted
  • Controlling invasive
  • Studying a variety of soils/geological profiles, water, plants, animals, and microbes, using instruments and software.

 

COMPENSATION AND TIMELINE

Compensation is commensurate with experience, undergraduate or graduate level at $12-20/hr. There will be opportunities for advancement in this position in accordance with performance, and special projects with higher pay grades.

This internship/part time position may take place between May – August, and/or throughout the year, including fall and winter.
