Floriculture Research Position Available

 The American Floral Endowment (AFE) – a nonprofit charitable organization (c3) that funds research, scholarships, education, and internships for the floral industry – is seeking a Research Co-Coordinator to support its scientific research efforts. To accomplish the goals of AFE’s new Strategic Plan, floriculture/horticulture research and communications will be expanded to include development of training and educational programs, new online resources, enhanced reporting, and other new focused initiatives.

As such, the Endowment is looking to hire a research co-coordinator to assist the current Research Coordinator in providing support for AFE’s newsletters, research reports, webinars, and other research communications and efforts. Candidate will work alongside current research coordinator but have separate responsibilities and duties as assigned. 

This is a great opportunity for a recently retired faculty member/researcher or industry member with a passion and understanding for industry research. Remote work opportunity.  Must be proficient in Office 365, Zoom, and other communication platforms. Must participate in weekly staff meetings, have own laptop/equipment, travel to industry events periodically, make presentations, and participate in online and in person committee / Board meetings throughout the year. Contract position, no benefits. Anticipated start date – July 1, 2022.

Requirements

The ideal candidate must be able to dedicate no less than 20 hours a week to AFE’s research efforts. Must understand research capabilities at major universities and within the industry regarding production, postproduction, transportation, breeding, pests/disease management, technology, and other challenges both domestic and internationally. Ability to communicate research results in easy-to-digest reports, handouts, and other materials, and communicate such in writing, through online programs, and at industry events.

 Ability to draft written materials, articles, scripts, and key research findings for placement in industry publications. Capacity to ask for support and sponsorships of programs, evaluate and provide feedback for research proposals, and seek peer reviews.
