 Introduction:

 

Scenic Place Peonies is a family operated cut flower farm located on the bluffs above Kachemak Bay in Homer, Alaska.  Although our primary focus is on growing Peonies, we provide over 100 varieties of flowers. Our flower fields consist of three outdoor acres and 11,000 SF under plastic on two farm locations. We provide products to many different users, including wholesalers, internet drop shippers, florists, event planners and designers throughout the United States and Canada.  On a local level, we provide floral bouquets to our local supermarkets, flower stand, and farmers' market.

 

Homer is home to an eclectic mix of personalities with a strong arts community, commercial and sport fisheries, eco tourism and many outdoor opportunities locally and across the bay in Kachemak Bay State Park.

 

 Description:

 

This horticultural internship offers hands-on experiences in the growing, harvesting, processing, packaging and shipping of many different types of flowers.  The team also participates in growing our own organic vegetables and caring for the poultry. Bouquet making skills are also taught.

 

Summer interns work 40 hours a week for a 12 week period in June, July and August. A

$600.00 a month stipend is provided as well as food and lodging. Camping and hiking opportunities are also provided.

 Requirements:

 

Applicants should have a good work ethic, desire to learn, positive attitude and the ability to be a team player. Farming or horticultural experience or schooling is preferred.
