Vineyard Manager

Cambridge Winery, located in Cambridge, WI about 20 miles east of Madison, is looking for a Vineyard Manager to manage all aspects of our vineyard. Cambridge Winery was established in 2013 to produce quality boutique wines and to provide hospitality services that complement its tasting rooms and vineyards. Cambridge Winery’s vineyard comprises approximately twelve acres of cold climate grapes grown on two different training system styles. Planted primarily in 2015 and 2016, the vineyard is now producing over 25,000 pounds of wine grapes annually and is an important component in the company’s annual wine production. The vineyard is located next to and amongst a unique residential development called The Vineyards at Cambridge, and about 2 blocks from the Cambridge Winery Event Center.

 

Job Description

  • Work Experience: Experience in farming and working with tractors is essential to this position. The Vineyard Manager will use various farm equipment, fertilizers, and other tools as
  • Work Team Management: The Vineyard Manager will work with, train, and guide day to day responsibilities for the work team they
  • Vineyard Tasks: Cambridge Winery is looking for a Vineyard Manager who either knows about vine management or is able and willing to learn about various vineyard tasks such as winter pruning, shoot thinning and tucking, scouting for pests, netting, and harvesting. Most vineyard pesticide applications are done through a contractor. Cambridge Winery also has an onsite ozone machine that is used as a part of their spray program, and which does not require a license to operate. The ozone machine helps reduce pest and disease pressure in a manner that is kind to employees, neighbors and the vines
  • Communication: A person in this position will be asked to maintain communication and updates about the vineyard to the owner, contractors, other workers, and potentially volunteers and neighbors of the

 

Requirements, Physical Demands, and Work Conditions

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 40lbs, occasionally
  • Readiness to work outside in all weather conditions, exposure to heat and cold in some cases
  • Requires complete mobility (walking, bending and stretching) in the vineyard on uneven terrain
  • Transportation to vineyard site
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Work Independently and in team
  • Flexibility is available for work hour scheduling as long as communications with other team members and management is

 

Benefits

Full-time permanent employees receive Paid Time Off, holidays and health insurance. However, seasonal employees do not receive these benefits until such time that they become permanent. All employees receive discounts on food and wine. The Vineyard Manager is a seasonal position, with opportunity to become permanent.

 

Hourly

Ranges from $15/hour to $22+/hour, depending on experience, educational training and candidate’s availability to work.

 

Job Type

Part-time or full-time, seasonal, with opportunity to become full-time permanent (year round).

 

Qualifications

  • Viticultural work experience or training (required)
  • Farming: 2 years (preferred)
  • Tractor Experience: 1 year (preferred)
  • Knowledge of pesticide applications
  • Pesticide application license (not required but preferred)
  • US Work authorization
  • Driver’s License

 

Cambridge Winery is also looking for field workers to perform vineyard tasks throughout the summer of 2022. Candidates should indicate whether field work is of interest as an alternative to Vineyard Manager.
