2023 Splish Splash water camp

Welcome to week six of camp!

Campers are learning all about water this week. To kick start the morning campers got a MSU Tollgate shirt to tie dye that they can wear on Friday.

Garden Time: Rain gauge

For garden time, campers created a rain gauge to see how much rain we get. With a two-liter pop bottle they cut the top off, added some water and rocks! We shall see if they get any more water since it will be raining today.

Animal Chores

Doing chores around the farm helps make sure our animals are fed, our garden is growing well and weeded. Some of the chores consist of milking our goats, walking our baby goats, spending time with our bunnies and collecting chicken/ duck eggs!

Common Water

Imagine it’s over 200 years ago and homesteaders on small farms are inhabiting the water. Over the years the homestead has become more inhabited. Campers will learn how important water is for everyone.

Fishy Story

This is the story of a fish named Freddy who’s swimming through the stream that leads to the Detroit River. As he goes on his journey, the river gets polluted with all sorts of things. Campers are going to learn the effects of pollution and find ways to prevent it.

STEAM: Boat building

We used recycled materials to demonstrate how boats float on water. They learned the characteristics of making a boat float and what materials we can use for the boat. Once they were done testing the tin foil, they drew out their boats.

Garden Kitchen: Homemade applesauce & Lentil energy bars
