Dr. Amengual is from Palma (Spain), where he obtained his PhD in 2009 at the University of the Balearic Islands. He was a post-doctoral fellow at Case Western Reserve University (2009-2013) and at New York University (2013-15). In 2016 he became Research Assistant Professor at the School of Medicine – NYU (2016 -2017). In 2018, he joined the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign.

The Amengual lab uses biochemical, genetic, and molecular biology techniques to determine the role of carotenoids and vitamin A in lipid metabolism. Over my years of training, he has acquired the necessary techniques and expertise to develop a unique and competitive research program. I have produced 14 first-author research publications in prestigious peer-reviewed journals, been invited to give oral presentations at international conferences, and participated in many research collaborations. His research has been funded by the American Heart Association and NIH.

Research topics include: Carotenoids, vitamin A, lipoprotein metabolism, atherosclerosis and obesity.
