Over 300,000 apples crunched around MI hails the Michigan Apple Crunch 2015 a success

EmailIn a statewide celebration and appreciation for one of Michigan's many phenomenal agricultural products, the third annual Michigan Apple Crunch took place on October 22, 2015. More than 300,000 apples were crunched statewide!
Did you know that Michigan is the 3rd largest apple producing state in the nation? In a statewide celebration and appreciation for one of Michigan’s many phenomenal agricultural products, the third annual Michigan Apple Crunch took place on October 22, 2015. Kids and adults alike crunched into apples around the state, took photos and shared their crunch on websites and social media. The effort, coordinated by Cherry Capital Foods and in alignment with Food Day, had a record number of participants this year. Numbers, still trickling in at this time, topped 300,000 apples crunched! The 300,000+ participants this year shows an increase from the 75,000 crunchers in 2013 and 225,000 in 2014. Registered participants included about 200 K-12 schools, and a number of businesses, colleges, senior citizens, and preschoolers throughout the state.
Kelly Lively, project coordinator at Cherry Capital Foods, shared her experience about the day, saying, “I was fortunate enough to celebrate with kindergarteners and 1st grade students in Kingsley on a sparkling autumn day, as well as on our rooftop at Cherry Capital Foods.” Apples were crunched in elementary school classrooms, high schools, college campuses, local businesses, on the floor of the Michigan Senate, and more! “The third annual Michigan Apple Crunch was such a success, thanks to local food advocates all over the state. What a great way to show our love and support for Michigan farmers!” said Lively.
