This role is responsible for assisting the Propagation Manager with various day-to-day tasks, monitoring production greenhouse facilities, observing equipment for maintenance, and supervising crew workers. Primary Responsibilities:                          
  1. Oversee day-to-day tasks in Propagation.
    • Maintain or supervise daily crew labor tracking in current database. 
    • On a regular basis, inform crew of their performance by reviewing their production rates.
    • Ensure all tasks in Propagation are accomplished using established protocols.
    • Maintain daily inventory of liners during all stages in the Propagation process.
    • Assist Propagation Manager to ensure all cutting, sticking and transplanting of liners is complete by the required date based off production plan.
    • Perform physical inventories of supplies and submit orders to vendors as needed.
  2. Monitor production greenhouse facilities within Propagation.
    • Manage 1+ acres of propagation greenhouse with unrooted cuttings.
    • Program traveling irrigators, according to protocols, to produce a healthy rooted liner.
    • Utilize greenhouse environmental control program to optimize rooting on cuttings.
    • Monitor health of cuttings and report pest, disease or nutritional issues.
    • Based on IPM protocols, may schedule and apply beneficial organisms, pesticide and/or fertilizer applications.
  3. Report to Maintenance Department if any equipment is not functioning properly.
  4. Ensure crew workers are following all policies and procedures.
  5. Weekend, evening and holiday responsibility for entire nursery on a rotational basis shared among the other managers and assistant managers throughout the year.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
 
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in plant science-related field. 
  • Must be able to assist the crews in their daily work assignments as needed. 
  • Computer skills are required for propagation-related tasks in NAV nursery database as well as proficiency in Excel and Word.
  • Bilingual English-Spanish skills are highly desirable.
 
Performance Requirements:
  • Must maintain a level of performance equivalent to company standards, that being a “Meets Expectations” in all areas of your performance evaluations (including but not limited to, Self and Management reviews).

Job Type: Full time, salary (exempt)
Pay: starting at $45,000/year, dependent upon experience. Amount is not inclusive of total compensation package.
