PLACEMENT: Support staff, Grade 7
MINIMUM PAY RATE: $45,675 annually

Requirements

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Opening and securing Greenhouse facility. 
2. Increase Greenhouse and Formal Garden visibility in the community. Provide tours of greenhouse and gardens. 
3. Coordinate and conduct plant sales, including maintaining contact information for current and potential customers.
4. Plan and schedule daily work schedules, establish priorities, and coordinate and schedule crop production including recording keeping.
5. Oversee set-up, clean-up, and maintenance of the greenhouse facilities. Maintain an orderly, clean, and safe facility.
6. Assist with supervision of students and classes utilizing the outdoor Horticulture Land Laboratory, Formal Garden, and Greenhouse facility. 
7. Supervise and coordinate greenhouse, formal garden and Horticulture Land Lab student workers. 
8. Provide training on correct procedures and workplace safety used on site to faculty, students and student workers.
9. Encourage increased use of Greenhouse and Formal Gardens by JJC faculty when not being utilized for departmental teaching, research or projects.
10. Assist faculty and other staff with educational activities in the facilities.
11. Monitor, maintain, and oversee installation of equipment utilized in the greenhouse.
12. Maintain Greenhouse and Formal Gardens, including specialty areas. Maintain plant collection for the department and laboratory areas, both inside and outside.
13. Oversee the financial aspect of the greenhouse including monitoring inventory, ordering materials, supplies and equipment, record keeping, maintaining permanent files, and adhering to the budget provided by the institution.
14. Solicit support of businesses for resources used in the Greenhouse and Formal Gardens.
15. Represent JJC at industry/affiliated organization meetings.
16. Increase Greenhouse and Formal Garden demonstration and research with an emphasis on non-traditional and sustainable production practices.
17. Assist with departmental recruiting functions, and assist in creation and updating of marketing and promotional materials related to the Greenhouse and Formal Gardens. 
18. Ability to operate the greenhouse control system via a computer.
19. Coordinate and/or provide coverage of weekend and holiday maintenance of the Greenhouse/Land Lab
20. Participate in achieving departmental and collegiate goals and objectives.
21. Perform related duties as assigned.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Associate’s Degree or equivalent.
2. Three (3) years of greenhouse experience with horticulture background.
3. Experience in production recordkeeping.
4. Possess or obtain (within 30 days of employment) the appropriate Illinois State Pesticide Applicators’ Licenses.
5. Willingness to work flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
6. Good communication, organization and time management skills.
7. Personal computer skills with knowledge of greenhouse-related software.
8. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
2. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
3. Demonstrated multicultural competence.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 
1. Normal office physical demands.
2. Ability to operate and use small power equipment for maintenance of gardens and greenhouse.
3. Ability to travel between campus locations and to and from community events.
4. Ability to lift a maximum weight of 50 lbs.

1. Duties are performed indoors in the usual office and/or outdoor environment.
