Job Description: An orchard scout at Genesis ag will make routine visits weekly to area farms. Time and hours are flexible, however getting into a schedule on which farms will be visited on which days is important. Checking insect traps, observing for pests and diseases, and maintaining a friendly correspondence with growers are the key aspects of the position.

Weekly duties include:

Scouting and trapping orchards as directed
Filing reports on software system provided (can be done via iphone)
Maintaining open communication with supervisor and growers
Filling out vehicle mileage reports
Keeping an open and curios mind, while paying attention to detail in the orchard
Meeting with supervisor twice a week to keep on top of current conditions
Completing tasks with minimal supervision

Keys for success:

Being observant at all times, including while driving through orchards with tractors in use
Clearly communicating what is being observed, texting pictures to supervisor when unsure
Not delaying reports to growers, quickly completing reports and moving on to next orchard
Being curious and asking questions to learn
Putting a smile on growers faces by doing an outstanding job

Materials will be provided to identify key insect, disease, and weed pests. Supervisor will also help to point out what to look for weekly. Crops scouted will mostly be apples, with some peaches, cherries, and pears mixed in.

Wage: $20/hour plus mileage compensation on vehicle, vehicle not provided
