2024 HTRC Summer Farm Assistant/Internship

The MSU Horticulture Teaching and Research Center is looking for hardworking, creative students to help run the large Horticulture Farm. The farm hosts a wide variety of research projects and planting from fruit orchards to vegetable production to landscape plantings, and we are seeking creative, hard-working students to aid farm staff in maintaining the day-to-day operations of the research center.

A successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience on trade equipment such as tractors with many different implements, skid steers, and riding mowers in addition to learning about irrigation and field plot maintenance. This fast-paced work environment is a great opportunity for students to be exposed to different farming practices.

Desired Qualifications:

  • An interest in learning about different horticultural cropping systems and farm management
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work well independently and with others, regardless of weather conditions
  • Positive attitude, organized, great communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with irrigation installation
  • Watering, fertilizing, and weeding the grounds
  • Mowing and maintaining the facility

Scheduled Hours

  • 40 hour work weeks (M-F), May-August
