Schlee awarded Schrems Scholarship

Kelsey Schlee, a CSIS master’s student, has received the 2013 Schrems Scholarship and will use it to investigate the effects of climate change on brook trout for her thesis work.

“Our nation’s fisheries are a vital component of our economy, sense of well-being, food resources and recreation, make their study essential and worthwhile,” Schlee said. “Working with Trout Unlimited has solidified my love for trout and their habitats. It’s my goal to become a strong advocate for this valuable resource so that I may help ensure its sustainability.”

The Schrems Scholarship honors Cornelius “Cornie” Schrems, founding member of Schrems West Michigan Trout Unlimited. His wife, Sis, established the scholarship in 1987 with a gift to MSU. The scholarship was endowed in 2012 and is given to a graduate student working on coldwater fisheries who demonstrates excellent academic credentials, evidence of leadership, ability to communicate with the public and the ability to solve problems creatively.
