On January 24th and 25th, 10 students from the Student Horticulture Association attended the Northern Michigan Small Farm Conference in Traverse City. This is a conference for already established farmers, aspiring farmers, and those who just want to learn more about the industry. Members were able to attend several educational sessions including topics about livestock, medicinal herbs, ginger, crop rotations, beekeeping, and so many more. A trade show was comprised of a diverse group of companies all enthusiastic to talk about their businesses and our industry. Students also had the opportunity to volunteer with Crosshatch who hosted the conference. Our students learned so much and really enjoyed themselves. The Student Horticulture Association's goal is to seek out opportunities to bridge the gap between education and the industry and the Northern Michigan Small Farm Conference was a great way to do that. We look forward to the conference next year!
