Three PhD students garner awards

Three CSIS doctoral students, all in Fisheries and Wildlife, have been honored for their work this spring.

Chiara Zuccarino-CroweChiara Zuccarino-Crowe was awarded the 2012 Best Paper Presentation at the Joint Meeting of the Michigan Chapter of the American Fisheries Society and the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Fisheries Society held Feb. 7-9 in Marinette, Wisc. Her presentation was entitled “Lake trout refuge effects on select fish species in the Apostle Islands region, Lake Superior.”

Ayman Mabrouk

Ayman Mabrouk’s presentation “The Impact of establishing no-take zones in maintaining sustainable artisanal fisheries in Nabq Managed Protected Area, South Sinai, Egypt” was named best prospective talk at the Seventh Annual Department of Fisheries and Wildlife Graduate Student Research Symposium on Feb. 24, at the MSU Union.

Wu YangWu Yang has been selected as a recipient of $7,000 for the Environmental Science and Policy Graduate Student Summer Research Funding.

With support from the Graduate School, the Environmental Science and Policy Program (ESPP) offers one-time summer research funding for MSU doctoral students to engage in interdisciplinary research activities that focus on environmental science and policy, broadly defined. Funds can be used to support research activities, including organizing or traveling to workshops, data collection, short courses, and extramural laboratory rotations.
