Questions to Ask: Audience

You always need to know your audience. However, offering a program in a new format may change your potential or actual audience.

Audience

  • What is your ideal audience size? What is your likely audience size?
    • Motivations
      • What is their motivation for attending this programming? What problem(s) are they trying to solve by attending the program?
    • General demographics
      • Where do they live? What do they do? How old are they? Will youth in the audience?
      • What are their scheduling needs?
      • Will they have privacy concerns?
    • Content and educational background
      • What is their educational level?
      • How much do they already know about this content? Will this be mostly uniform or vary greatly?
    • Learning preferences
      • How do they prefer to learn?
      • What obstacles may they face while learning?
      • What is their attention span?
      • Do they generally want to interact? How will different interactions help them?
      • What is their level of digital literacy? What technologies do they have access to?
    • Will a change to a different delivery format impact who your audience will be? If so, how will the answers to the above questions change?
