On November 16, 2023, stakeholders from Tanzania’s agrifood sector gathered at the Jangwani Sea Breeze Resort in Dar es Salaam for a validation event organized under the RSM2SNF project. The event aimed to share and discuss findings from a comprehensive survey on stakeholder perceptions of the fish and vegetable value chains, focusing on key issues like affordability, food safety, and gender dynamics.
The event brought together participants from various sectors, including government officials, researchers, industry representatives, and civil society members. The discussion highlighted the economic constraints faced by actors in the value chains, particularly the high costs of inputs and infrastructure gaps that challenge both affordability and safety.
Specific topics included:
- Environmental contamination and poor storage facilities impacting fish safety.
- Issues like unclean irrigation water affecting vegetable safety.
- The role of women in vegetable value chains and the need for gender-equitable policies in fish-related activities.
Stakeholders provided feedback on survey findings, emphasizing the importance of balancing safety and affordability in future interventions. Recommendations included improving cold storage infrastructure, enhancing food safety monitoring systems, and implementing targeted gender inclusion programs.
This event not only validated the survey results but also provided actionable insights to guide the RSM2SNF project in supporting Tanzania’s agrifood systems. Participants expressed their commitment to collaborative efforts aimed at building resilience and equity in the fish and vegetable value chains.
