AJ Burdick, FSHN Food Science student, shares his experience with the program and what receiving the G. Malcolm Trout Undergraduate Scholarship has meant for his undergraduate experience.

Name: AJ Burdick

What is your hometown: Grandville, Michigan

Major: Food Science

Why did you choose MSU FSHN for your major?

I chose MSU FSHN for my major because it allowed me to combine my aptitude for science and my love for food and cooking.

What has been the most interesting thing you have learned during your major?

The most interesting thing I’ve learned is the steps and research done for Product Development. There is so much more that goes into each new food product than a consumer would ever know.

What has receiving the G. Malcolm Trout Undergraduate Scholarship meant to you?

Receiving the G. Malcom Trout Undergraduate Scholarship has meant that I am able to further my education in ways I’ve never thought possible. Whether it’s internships, studying abroad, or research opportunities, I have been able to learn so much more without worrying about how I am going to pay for it all.

What are your future plans?

My future plans are to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Food Science with a Technology Concentration and a Minor in both Beverage Science and Food Industry Management. From there, I will be working at Anheuser-Busch InBev in their Brewery Trainee Program.

If there was only one thing you could share with someone considering MSU FSHN for their undergraduate experience, what would you tell them?

I would tell them that every professor here wants to see you succeed. They will help you out in any way they possibly can to see you graduate with the highest honors possible. The people in the MSU FSHN Department truly do care about the students and their success.
