They collaborate with CRFS specialists to develop outreach materials and uplift the work of our programs and partners. Previously, they worked at the Food Security Group within the department of Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics, coordinating communications for the Innovation Lab for Food Security Policy Research, Capacity, and Influence. While there, they worked to amplify the voices of early career scholars in Africa and South and Southeast Asia in their efforts to support sustainable, inclusive, and healthy agrifood system transformation. Melissa also supported efforts to disseminate food safety and soil testing resources in Nigeria and accelerate climate change mitigation across Africa and Asia.

Before joining Michigan State University, Melissa served as the Creative Director at Zeedia Media, a marketing agency specializing in digital support and social media marketing for local businesses. In addition to their communications work, Melissa worked in small-scale horticulture at Three Brothers Farm and Orchard and Giving Tree Farm. Melissa was also part of the Student Organic Farm Initiative which evolved into the Student Organic Farm at MSU. They have a degree in psychology and coursework in horticulture from Michigan State University. In their spare time, they can be found making art, digging in the dirt, and getting creative.
