CANR Dean's Update - Sept. 8, 2016

A message from Ron Hendrick, dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources

Colleagues:

Thanks for all your help in getting our academic year off to a great start. While the summer continues to hang on, we're undoubtedly off and running.

Our new students joined the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and were welcomed by the academic staff during the college's fall welcome event. Thanks to those who had a hand in pulling off that event. Also, thanks to the External Relations staff who worked with the CANR's capital campaign chairs Stella and Jerry Cash to throw a welcome event for me with retired faculty. It was very nice to see long-time friends and former professors.

I will also head to visit alumni in St. Louis and Minneapolis later this month with Jen Owen and Robert Montgomery.

I had the opportunity to chat with Katusha Galitzine in the Office of Diversity and Pluralism about a vision for how we will look for leadership in that area. You can read about that conversation on the ODP website.

Congratulations to Joan Rose who was recipient of the Stockholm Water Prize last month. This is THE prize for those who dedicate their lives to the study of water. We are lucky to have Joan here and to have her continue her groundbreaking work in our college.

Speaking of awards, have you received one? We would like to recognize you during the annual Faculty and Staff Appreciation Picnic. We will absolutely do that, but we need your help. Please let us know if you've won an award or recognition in your field, by filling in the form at CANR Awards.

As always, please email news for the CANR community to CANRdean@msu.edu. And, if you're a social media user, I'm on Twitter @Ron_Hendrick, and so is the college @CANRatMSU. Give us a follow.

Sincerely,

Ron Hendrick
Professor & Dean, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources
