Seminar Title: “Demystifying ‘Seed Oils’: What does the scientific evidence tell us?"
Location: S. Anthony 1135 and Zoom
Dr. Belury earned a BS in Nutrition and a PhD in Biological Sciences at the University of Texas in Austin. Dr. Belury studies how dietary fatty acids, flavonoids and other bioactive food molecules, target cellular phospholipids to impact energy metabolism and inflammation. With many students and collaborators, Dr. Belury has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications and has sustained 30 years of research funding from organizations including the NIH, USDA, American Cancer Society, American Institute for Cancer Research, private industry, and agriculture commodity groups.
In 2011, Dr. Belury was elected Fellow in the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). She was awarded with the 2022 Ralph T. Holman Lifetime Achievement award by the American Oil Chemists’ Society (AOCS) and the Taiwan Nutrition Society Award in 2024. Dr. Belury served on the board of directors for the American Society for Nutrition (ASN) for many years where she also served as Past President.
Dr. Belury is a lucky mother and grandmother. In her spare time, she loves to read and listen to stories and to music; additionally, she enjoys biking, hiking, swimming and sailing when time allows.
