Come see what our undergraduates do at Kellogg Biological Station!
Undergraduates from MSU, and institutions all over the country, will showcase their summer research and professional experiences at the KBS Summer Undergraduate Internship and Research Symposium on Friday, July 31st from 4-7 p.m.
The KBS/MSU Internship Program is hosting a wide variety of interns working on a number of projects that range from landscape architecture to historical writing and avian care. Our Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program (URA) pairs early-career students with a mentor scientist so that these students can gain valuable experience in a field or lab setting outside of a classroom. During their stay at KBS interns and URAs work part-time for their mentor and take a KBS field course to supplement their learning experience.
With funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program pairs undergraduate students with a mentor scientist to create independent research project. REUs work on their research projects full-time and will present formal scientific research posters that are appropriate for presentation at international and national scientific conferences.
Students participating in research will be presenting on a wide variety of topics such as:
- Genetic diversity and nitrogen fixation in biofuel crops
- Greenhouse gas emissions in agricultural systems
- Wetland biogeochemical cycling
- Groundwater irrigation and carbon dynamics in agricultural systems
- Animal behavior
- Use of brewery wastewater for biofuel production
The Symposium will be held in the KBS Auditorium at 3700 East Gull Lake Drive in Hickory Corners, on Friday, July 31st from 4-7 p.m. A short program will begin at 4:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. The event is FREE and the public is welcome!
The W.K. Kellogg Biological Station is Michigan State University’s largest off-campus education complex and one of North America's premier inland biologcial field stations. KBS's mission is focused on ecological and environmental research, education and community outreach.
