The Tri-County Regional Planning Commission (TCRPC), the Ingham County Health Department and Michigan State University (MSU) are pleased to announce training opportunities in July and August in how to use the new online Health Impact Assessment (HIA) Toolkit with its unique mapping and analysis capability. The HIA Toolkit is available online at the TCRPC’s Mid-Michigan Program for Greater Sustainability website.

The Mid-Michigan Health Impact Project will conduct four trainings at the Foster Community Center, 200 N. Foster Ave. in Lansing, Michigan, on the following dates and times:

  • Thursday, July 24, 2014, from 2-5 p.m.: For planners and elected officials only;
  • Thursday, July 31, from 2-5 p.m.: Open to the public;
  • Wednesday, August 6, 2-5 p.m.: For planners and elected officials only; and
  • Wednesday, August 13, from 5-8 p.m.: Open to the public.

The HIA Toolkit is designed to help local planners, elected officials, developers, public and private organizations and the public who are responsible for and/or interested in assessing the health and environmental impacts of development decisions. The Toolkit supports communities in completing health impact assessments of policies and changes to the built environment, including new construction projects, road improvements, community plans and more.

These events are free and open to the public. Reservations are required as space is limited. Please send RSVPs to Reception@mitcrpc.org, by Tuesday, July 22, 2014. Two credit hours of continuing education is available to all AICP planners.

Questions about the Toolkit and the training opportunities should be sent to Michael Thomas, PhD, from the MSU School of Planning, Design and Construction, at thomasmr7@comcast net or call (517) 332-2986.
