At age 15, German volleyball player Eva Kassens-Noor was invited to attend a sports youth camp at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic games with 100 other young athletes. Now, as an assistant professor in the School of Planning, Design and Construction, Kassens-Noor has been to four other Olympic games host cities to study mega-events and their lasting impacts on host cities’ development and transportation systems. A mega-event is a globally significant phenomenon, Kassens-Noor says, such as the Olympic Games, the World Cup and World’s Fairs.
