SPDC Landscape Architecture Prog & Alumni Assoc to host golf fundraiser

MSU is hosting the 23rd Annual LAAA Scholarship Fundraising Golf Outing on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at Hawk Hollow Golf Course in East Lansing.

The MSU School of Planning, Design and Construction’s (SPDC) Landscape Architecture (LA) Program and LA Alumni Association (LAAA) are hosting the 23rd Annual LAAA Scholarship Fundraising Golf Outing on Tuesday, August 27, 2013. This year, the event is located at the fun and beautiful Hawk Hollow Golf Course on North Abbot/Chandler Road in East Lansing.

Alumni from the SPDC LA Program can show support for the LA Alumni Association Student Scholarships program by sponsoring a tee or a specific on-course activity, by pulling together a foursome, or even providing a donation directly to the LAAA Scholarship Fund, all in the name of their firm or business. All net proceeds go to support the annual LA Alumni Association Student Scholarships.

This fundraiser has become a mainstay of support and inspiration to the students, by providing the opportunity for scholarships to any LA student who shows commitment to the community service activities of the MSU Student Chapter American Society of Landscape Architects or ASLA. Through its history the LAAA Golf Outing has generated more than $35,000 dollars in student scholarship funding. The goal this year is to up the ante and raise $5,000 per year over the next five years.

At the outing, LA students will greet attendees, work the registration tables, have made and set up the colorful sponsor tee signs, and participate in the golfing experience. These students also work hard annually to coordinate the other activities of the LAClub for all SPDC LA students. They sponsor their own professional speaker series, “Talk Tuesdays,” host portfolio and resume workshops, and coordinate annual trips to LABash and the ASLA and Michigan Chapter Conferences. In addition, these students participate each year in public service projects for the Woldumar Nature Education Center, and biennially in the Big Ten Graphic Workshop and Design Charrette. They also have provided design visioning for community nonprofits like Elle’s Place and the Lansing Public Schools.

The 2013 LAAA Golf Outing will be exciting for all, with continental breakfast, 18 holes of golf, on-course games of skill and chance, and awards lunch buffet all included in the entry fee. Registration is available online. Learn more, visit SPDC Landscape Architecture Alumni Golf Outing and Scholarship Fundraiser.
