A recent email from Dean Poston provided the process for all CANR students and staff and faculty members to ensure that they have an emergency contact on file with MSU.
A recent email from Dean Poston provided the process for all CANR students and staff and faculty members to ensure that they have an emergency contact on file with MSU. It also provided instructions on providing additional contact information through ALERT.MSU.EDU.
Please review your emergency contact information in Enterprise Business Systems (EBS) so that you have an up-to-date designated emergency contact with the university. If you have an emergency and the university needs to contact someone on your behalf, the university would contact the person you have on file. Also, please review the information the university has on record for you in ALERT.MSU.EDU and update as appropriate. The ALERT.MSU.EDU system is activated in the event of a university emergency or a need to communicate with the entire university community via home telephone, mobile phone, text and email. Below are the policy and instructions on updating your emergency contact and ALERT.MSU.EDU information.
Emergency Contact Information (if you have an emergency at work)
At the time of hire, employees must designate an emergency contact and provide the university with employee contact information so that the appropriate person can be reached by a university representative in emergency situations. Employees should update emergency contact information as needed through the Employee Self-Service (ESS) portal. Employees may view and update their emergency contact information in EBS by following this process:
Go to https://login.msu.edu/?App=EBSP-SecPortaland log in with your MSU ID and password.
Click on the ESS tab.
Click on "Personal Information."
Click on "Emergency Contact" and review your information on that page. If you need to add a
contact or change a contact, click on the "Edit" button. Then add the name, address and
telephone number of the contact and hit the "Save" button.
Additional Contact Information (to reach you in the event of a university emergency)
In the event of an emergency, MSU is able to contact you by sending an email message, texting your cell phone and leaving a recorded message on your phone. Please provide contact information, which will remain on your MSU file. This contact information need not be yours. It may be the phone number of a parent, guardian, friend or neighbor. For a campus emergency, MSU will call the phone number(s) listed as well as send an email to your MSU registered email address.
Your business address, telephone number and email are automatically maintained by the university. Please periodically review your contact information. If you find the information is incorrect, please contact your supervisor or departmental business office for assistance in making corrections to the MSU Directory. To review or update your additional contact information, follow this process:
Go to http://alert.msu.edu/ and click on "Login" in the green bar toward the top of the page.
Log in with your MSU ID and password.
Review the information in the "MSU Contact Information" section.
To add a cell phone number, other electronic device number and/or alternative email address, please add under the "Additional Contact Information" section.
Hit the "Save" button.
