The Agriscience Teacher of the Year Award will be presented by Consumers Energy and DTE Energy to Kent Bollinger. The award recognizes a Michigan agriculture, food and natural resources teacher who has been active in his or her community, region and state in promoting the National FFA Organization’s vision.
Bollinger is an agriscience teacher and FFA advisor in Coopersville Area Public Schools, where he has worked since 1987. An MSU alumnus, Bollinger graduated in 1984 with a degree in agricultural education. He later received a master’s degree in educational administration from Grand Valley State University.
He has served on the board of directors for the Michigan Association of Agriculture Educators and as president of that organization for a year. In 1994, he received an Honorary State FFA Degree, and in 2006, the Honorary American FFA Degree.
In addition to his work as a teacher and FFA advisor for the past 28 years, Bollinger has coached baseball, softball and bowling, and served as a driving instructor. He helps his students year round with summer contests, local fair entries and supervision of their agriculture experience programs. Last year, in cooperation with Ottawa County Farm Bureau, Bollinger and his FFA students sponsored a 55-acre school community garden from which more than 6,000 meals for local families were harvested.
